So, since my last post, I have gone home for a nice weekend at home. Some relaxation and getting work done. Nice and relaxing. If only I could find a bed which was long enough for me. Monday was basic work. A lot of running errands. mind numbing work. Today my boss and I did some work out on the Chicahominy river... Namely knee boarding, water skiing, tubing, and generally putting an end to a good summer. We met up with an old HS bud of Jeff's who brought his 2 kids and wife. The wife stayed on teh shore, which we hit the water. The guy's son (mark) was about 53 lbs, and could get up on teh knee board without it moving, so it was pretty easy for him. My attempts at the knee board were a bit less easy, with so much of me dragging in the water and my high center of gravity it was harder to get up. So the little girl just inner tubed. Mark knee boarded and his dad got him a pair of training skiis for water. Sonny (the dad) knee boarded and slolam skiied. He did pretty good, could pull off osme tricks like 360's jumping the wake, etc. Jeff and I only knee boarded. He did a bit better then I, getting farther with the 360's and pullign off some impressive jumps over the wake. 2 good wipeouts as well. My turns were spent only on the knee board. Once I figured out how to get up, that part became easy. Got about 340 of a 360 before wiping. I was able to get pretty far out and jump over the wake poorly. I don't think the boat got up fast enough, Jeff kept goarding both me and Sonny to jump farther and go faster respectively. My last turn on the board came to an end when Jeff goarded me to cut just a little bit more, which I did, got some nice air, and then the front egde caught the wake and I face plated. That'll knock the wind out of you. Quick. No major damage done, but I drank some of the water, bleh. Jeff got a great laugh out of me, and I was quite impressed that my boss could do tricks like that. Nice day all in all, I'm really beat....
time to sleep
peace

If you are somewhere on the Peninsula and would like to become a DJ based out of Yorktown, VA, let me know. My boss is looking for some more DJ's. He will provide all equipment, CD's, and money. All you need is a vehicle and want to be a DJ. As far as pay goes, I have made as little as $60 in one night (no tip, 3 hour job) and as much as $450 ($40 tip and 8 hour gig). Overtime is $70/hr straight to you. If you are interested, let me know. Most jobs go well. And when people start drinking, the job gets really easy. It's a good job. Get back to me if you are interested.

So last night's DJ gig was not so hot. I was showing up for a 2 hour event for a volunteer fire fighter unit. I was told ahead of time "country, 70's funk, 80's" all of which I have. So That's what I prepared for. It turned out to not be good. Someone initially came up and requested some songs along those lines. So I was thinking everything would work out cool. After a few min that woman dissapeared and a new crowd formed which basically called half my music choice horrible ("this song rates a huge 0"). When I was playing music that had been already requested. So most of teh time it seemed like the 10 people or so who danced couldnt decide what they wanted...They would request songs like the Cha Cha Slide, and then stand there going "how do I dance to this??? Stop the song, we don't want to hear it anymore." So it didn't go so well.... But I made a few $$ and a $5 tip. Woo.....

So last night my car's electrical died. Indicating a bad alternator. So this morning was spent replacing said alternator. I am always surprised how something in my life breaks, and God leaves the money to fix it. Total for the alternator $125 + tax. Total outstanding pay checks for the wedding Jeff had me do and the other job that Jeff and I just got paid for $125.... coincidence? I don't think so..... Hopefully I can kayak today...

Yep, it was indeed a useless job. I got the call around 4:30 that it was a nice lesson in futility. I went in to tear it all down.... two hours later the job was done, and I was out. Thats about 5 hours of wasted labor. WOOT

So today I may have spent hours working in circles effectively. Still waiting on the call to find out. Tomorrow is the hourly classified employee luncheon. It is held out in front of Wren. Last year, their rain plan was Trinkle, a nice obvious location. Large room, with good line of sight and an ALREADY BUILT IN SOUND SYSTEM. Their rain plan for this year? The Caf. Thats right, one of the dining facilities on campus. No good line of sight for a large group of people, no built in sound system, weird layout of the room for said people. So a little after noon I got a call from Jeff saying the rain plan call by time was moved from 12 to 4. I should start setting up the rain plan, becuase we didnt know how long we would have access to the caf today. So I load up the van totally (podium, 4 JBLs, mixer, LCD Projectors, stands, portable screens, camera, everything we would need.) I head over to the caf, and start setting up. Our sound system is ONE microphone on the podium going through the mixer (to split the signal) and out to two groups of JBLs. I ran hundreds of yards of cable, NEATLY, plus taped it all down when I was done. Our video system (since there is no clear line of sight) is a camera 15 ft in front of the podium, split into two signals running outa bit over 100 ft each way to 2 different projectors on either side, so that everyone should be able to see a screen or the talker. Ran power to everything, gaff taped everythign down. And now it is 4:30 anmd we are STILL waiting on the call. If they do not go rain plan, guess who gets to tear it all down? Yep. I HAVE to remove the podium, JBLs, Stands, and mixer tonight to use tomorrow, the rest can leave tomorrow. Tick tock....

So I am told that the websites have not been properly updated. So let me fill people in. We went 5-0 on Saturday.
According to http://www.collegeulti.com/qctu5.html we were supposed to go 2-3 at best. We proved some people wrong. Saturday we beat UNC Chapel Hill, Indiana, Delaware, Alabama, and Duke, in that order. Horrible weather. Mud Bowl all over the place. Rain coming down decently hard at times. All this forced us off a nice soccer complex onto a middle school football field. We tore it UP. I dont know how many times I slipped due to the mud just giving way under my feet. But on the good side, our defense dominated the day. We got break after break. Our offense did not play that many points on saturday, which turned out to be bad for sunday. On sunday we were back at the soccer complex to destroy their fields. Looking at our schedule we had one of the harder ones for the day. The way it is suppsoed to work is that the teams that dominated on sat (US) should not see real competition till later, so that the best competition stays around until the finals. However, we were projected to face MD, NC State, and Georgia. MD Has had a strong program in the past, but they proved no match for our zone. 10-2. NC State has had a history of playing us in the quarter finals, we do not know how it keeps happeneing. They play a physical game, not necesarily a smart game. We play a technical game, not neccesarily the most physical. Physicality won out.The fact that they can afford to draft guys who are 6' 4" whose sole job is to run deep and catch trash that is thrown up is a credit to the size of their school. We however play smart, and have a small group to draw from. Our offense kept getting beat by their defense, we had some 15 min points, which kill hte team behind beccuase we only play for an hour and a half. After that time if the team ahead scores one more point, it wins. So we ended up 6-1 on the weekend, not a bad start to the season. We have shown that we can run with teams from our region and beat people by large margins (not something WM has ever been known for). Lets go WM. We are trying to hold a scrimmage on Feb 26th with some other VA schools probably on the IM fields to practice some and have some fun.

Alright, tournament weekend...
You can follow along
http://ultimate.scoreomatic.com/v4/view/tournament.aspx?tournId=5699 here
or
http://www.blacklightnewmedia.com/clients/qctu/2006/flash.html here.
Lets go WM ULTIMATE!
(The premise to all this is that we are a "team on the way down" according to everyone else. And thos teams we took to double game point at the end of the last season, yeah, apparently, they have NOT seen any good competition since nationals last year. We're pissed, and hope to NOT lose to Indiana (!) or any other team we lost to by 1 pt. We won this tourney 2 years in a row. We'll get it back.
Peace,
#12

The following rant was obtained through Mike's LJ update....

http://www.stwing.upenn.edu/~jenf/writing/rant04.html

Its interesting, to say the least. Yet I found after reading it that it just didnt sit right with me. First off, his comment about how nice guys "dont get laid enough" was problem numero uno. A few things with this, I have generally been referred to as "a nice guy". I fit most of his stereotypes for nice guys. I even fit that one (thats right, I'm not having sex, crazy huh?). Now we guys who really ARE nice, we arent doing it to get laid. Its not in hopes to get some the next weekend that we escort the friends to and from the party. It is done becuase we care about them and do not wish to see them hurt in any way (wether they like us or not).

Another issue I took from it was that he seemed to be identifying nice guys with two things. Either A) they were nice to the girl they liked and got no reciprocation, which was a problem. Or B) They were nice to all their female friends, and again, got no reciprocation. Problem with A is that if youre truley a "nice guy" (NG from here out) it shouldnt just be towards the girl you like. You should treat ALL women with respect. Biut the problem with B is tied into that. You also cant do it to all your female friends, then complain about te lack of action. I didnt think that the NG was out just doing it for action. If you are just nice to get action, ok, go find someone who doesnt need you to put on the charade of being nice. The fact of the matter is, NG's are nice not JUST TO WOMEN, wow, no, we are not gay either. We value our friendships. It just happens that men usually dont go rant about their significant other for 2 hours. Instead, he's more likely to try to double your killing spree.

I agree with the first two paragraphs. A tast to all men who are man enough to treat women how they deservel, not trying to take advantage of them, not doing things (like be nice) to get laid, just treating their friends the way they should. Bravo. Keep up the good work. We don't need "vindication". What wrong has been commited against us? Lack of play? again, I fail to see his point. Why would you want to go out with your friend who values your friendship above any sort of physical relationship. Take that as a compliment. Continue to be the man you were created to be.

In conclusion to this rather rambling post to another rambling rant, Nice guy finish last, yes. But then again, Athletes finish last in leisure time. The President finishs last in time spent at home with the family. It is all a measure of what you place "winning" as having the most of. The write of this is clearly a nice guy, who is way to jaded to want to continue being nice....

peace

So this week has been the week to get myself healthy and checked out and got another OK stamp for another year. Only things didnt go as planned. As planned was my old (male) doctor (who is no longer covered on our insurance) telling me every time "You're a healthy (insert age here) boy." I can deal with that. My weight is holding steady at 145. I can deal with that too... But due to prior family history, THIS (female) doctor took a different route with the physical. She checked me for different signs of diabetes, double cecked that I had filled out that stupid questionairre right (dont smoke, drink, sex, etc) Is it really that hard to believe I take care of my body? When checking for signs of diabetes "Are you hungry a lot?" (have you SEEN my metabolism) "Are you thirsty a lot?" (I have practice 3 times a week and run twice a week, yes, I drink a LOT of water) etc. She ordered double the blood work that most people get. No early signs of diabetes (althoguh I just read in a magazine that the test they did doesnt show much for hte type of diabetes I would get). They initially said that "your good cholesterol is low and your bad cholesteral is really high". I asked what I should do, I was told excersize more.... I mentioned how often I run and work out. SHe was surprised and rececked the numbers... apparently REALLY HIGH is about 5 points (our of 150) off of the normal line. And REALLY LOW is a bit off normal too... SO I'm not that bad off. But I cant eat red meat. Translation, seafood. Time to eat more seafood (so Weds was just what the doctor ordered ;-)) Then the dentist today. Good news, he likes how my teeth look. Bad news, he thinks that sometime in the near future "as you start to get older, older being defined in many ways" I'll need dental work on all three front teeth due to the trauma they sustained. (frisbee to two of them, smashed the third in 8th grade). The first job didnt look too good. I enjoyed this dentist visit. I hate dentists. Apparently that was just becuase I had bad ones. This was our family dentist before we grew up (I last saw him in 1994 and he STILL has my chart from then). He's freaking hilarious. We shot the bull on a variety of issues, mostly college related (apparently he sees alot of teeth trauma due to colelge students trying to open beer bottles with their front teeth). Chatted with the nurse who was also very pleasant. Talked about experiments (mine in the labratory, her comment was about experimenting on patients, quite witty). We also discussed the friendly neighborhood police officer. Our past ticket issues. Great times at the dentists office. I actually look forward to going back, and will drive back from WM if I need some work done. This dentist once shoved a tooth BACK INTO MY HEAD that I knocked out prematurely on my brother's skull. Yay for roughhousing. So.... I believe the health is good, but Im still going to try to eat a little better (again, read more seafood). Excersize more. etc.......

Well, it seems everyone else is posting these thoughtful, reminising posts. SO I might as well. Cause all the cool kids are doing it. So I ran sound for a wedding today. That took me back a few years. I think I'm into my 9th year of running sound for weddings at MPC. Thats a long time. Had some of the requisite conversations "Do I know someone related to you?" "that depends on who you know, my mom is...." "Ohhh... right. So did she train you to do this?" "Nope, I trained her." "do you know Mark?" "Yep, I trained him" But some better conversations occuered, such as seeing the Janitor Hugo again. Havent seen him in 2 years and he still works there. He's learned enough english to say hi and wonder where I'd been. It was good to see him, and hte pastor Butch. I've done so many of his weddings (which are all the same) that I know most of his main points. Theres the bit about "leaving, cleaving and weaving" , "doing what we dont feel like is not hypocrasy", (one of my favorites) dont forget the single friends.... its not that they are lonely all the time waiting to talk to you, just that they like talking to people. etc. SO many tried and true points. I wouldnt mind hearing that at my wedding. Which leads me into a thought process that freaked me out. So I arrvied 2 hours early by mistake, and sat around working on some Su DOku, got bored with it after about 10 puzzles. Then the thinking starts.... Ok, so when I started doing all this I was about 11, thats 5th grade, stuff was WAY out of my mind. Now, the guy getting married today was 5 years older then I am.... Thats getting married 2 years out of college. THERES a freaky idea I had, thats 4/5 years away. Anyways... Good luck to all of you out of college... I think I'll continue to enjoy every second that I'm a student... Home is home, break is boring so far, ripping through reels cause theres not much to do besides that and lift/run. Woohoo..... Get to go see all sorts of docs next week (physical, dentist). Woohoo..... I'm hungry...
Peace

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In November I ruled Asscrackistan as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). In July I helped [info]silverskytears hide a body (-173 points). In September I signed my organ donor card (28 points). Last Saturday I had a shoot-out with rival gang lords on the 5 near LA (-76 points). Last week I helped [info]scarletmischief see the light (8 points).

Overall, I've been nice (487 points). For Christmas I deserve an Easy-Bake Oven!

Sincerely,
darthmaximus
